Our Story
In September of 2023, Michelle Giancola brought her dog, Bear to The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church’s Blessing of the Animals. She had a brief conversation with the Pastor, Juan Carlos Ruiz about adding pet food to Good Shepherd's already existing food pantry. His four words made it happen: “Why not. Let’s go”. The Pet Food Pantry was born. Kiso's Pet Food Pantry and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church partnered on the first one that November and the second in December for anyone that came to the food pantry. Kiso's Pet Food Pantries goal however was to focus on the seniors in the area.
Recognizing the invaluable bond between humans and their pets, we are committed to breaking the cycle of food insecurity faced by seniors in Brooklyn. By establishing a dedicated pet food pantry in collaboration with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, our goal is to ensure that seniors do not have to choose between feeding themselves or their pets. This initiative aims to provide seniors with access to pet food, promoting the well-being of both seniors and their beloved companions.
